State of Emergency fruitful in safeguarding constitutional order: GCS

Addis Ababa, November 2, 2023 (FBC) – The State of Emergency Command Post has managed to safeguard the constitutional in Ethiopia, the Government Communication Service Minister, Legesse Tulu (PhD) said, referring to the ongoing law enforcement operation in the Amhara Regional State.

The extremist group calling itself “Fano” attempted to dismantle the constitutional order in the Amhara Region and the federal level at large with armed violence and chaos and enforce their economic and political motifs through unconstitutional manner, Legesse said.

Legesse explained about the necessity of the declaration of the State of Emergency in the region, adding that the measures taken to fend off the threat posed by the extremist group would have not been successful through regular law enforcement operations.

The Command Post has been given updates to the public regarding the achievements gained following measure taken, restriction and improvements made during the process, Legesse indicated.

The Command Post has been notifying the community of the progress gained in terms of returning the region into normalcy and restructuring the regional leadership, accrding to the Minister.

The State of Command Post evaluated its operation yesterday and ascertained that the State of Emergency and consequent measures helped the government to defend the constitutional order from the threat posed by the group.

The extremist group has sustained human and material losses following the enforcement of the State of Emergency in the region, he said.

“The public that was swayed by the propaganda of the group has gained enough time to decipher what was really happening, and now the group has been scattered and reduced to a local gang of bandits.

The extremist group has been downgraded to a position whereby it cannot compete with the regional security force, he added.
