U.S. Embassy, Ethiopia Media Women’s Association honor icons in media industry

Addis Ababa, June 1, 2022 (FBC) – The U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa in partnership with the Ethiopia Media Women’s Association (EMWA) organized a national conference in honor of World Press Freedom Day for female journalists from private, public, broadcast, print, and digital media from diverse geographic regions.

Topics included digital engagement and safety, women working with disabilities, and lessons learned from the association’s founders.

On the occasion, EMWA together with U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa honored icons of the media industry and provided space for cross-generational conversations.

“The sessions helped answer the questions of how to use digital media effectively, develop a strong network of mentors, and build the capacity of women journalists and media practitioners.”

The U.S. Embassy’s spokesperson said, “We believe, as you may too, that freedom of expression, and access to factual and accurate information provided by independent media, are foundational to prosperous and secure democratic societies. This is why your work is so important.”
