UN Women Ethiopia advocating for ensuring digital power is in the hands of women & girls

Addis Ababa March 8, 2023 (FBC) – UN Women Ethiopia has commemorated the International Women’ Day organized in partnership with UN Ethiopia and the French Embassy in Addis Ababa.

UN Women Ethiopia in its social media post said that the commemoration is being held under the global theme “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”.

“While recognizing the considerable benefits of digital technologies and connectivity for everyone, we need at the same time to recognize and urgently address the digital divides that reflect and amplify existing social, cultural and economic inequalities, UN Women Ethiopia said.

It adds celebrating IWD, UN in Ethiopia is advocating for ensuring that digital power is in the hands of women and girls so that they are connected, empowered and safe.

The remark further said that digital power contributes to justice, inclusive and prosperous world, as envisioned in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”

A Panel discussion under the topic “Digital Feminist Activism and Violence in Ethiopia” was held as part of the celebration in participation of panelists representing Addis powerhouse, Ethiopian Human Rights Defenders, Ethiopian Media Women Association, Setaset Power and Addis Ababa Women Children and Social Affairs Bureau.
