African countries urged to focus on establishing better labour management system

Addis Ababa, March 8, 2023 (FBC) – African countries should focus on establishing a better labour management system, according to the United Nations Labor Organization.

It was stated that challenges and opportunities of labor administration were some of the core issues of the conference.

Minister of State for Employer-Employees at the Ministry of Labour and Skills of Ethiopia, Asegd Getachew, said that many guidelines have been revised in relation to employees’ rights, employer-employee relations and employees’ right to organize.

He noted that the institutions and factories affected by COVID-19 have been supported in cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO) so that they can restart working at their full capacity.

The state minister underscored that representatives of labor administration and unions are enhancing their capacity by taking trainings through Africa Regional Labour Administration Center.

Joni Musabayana, ILO representative, for his part, emphasized that African countries should focus on establishing a better labor administration system.

He also stated that it is necessary to establish a system where citizens can get alternative income when their primary income is interrupted or damaged due to disasters.
