Ethiopia begins Planting 500 million trees a day campaign nationwide

Addis Ababa, July 17, 2023 (FBC) – Ethiopians have begun planting 500 million trees in a single campaign as per the announcement made by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to break nation’s own record set four years ago.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has so far launched the second phase of the national Green Legacy Initiative aimed to plant 6 billion seedlings till the end of this rainy season.

Around 9,500 sites have been selected in all regions of the country for the national tree planting campaign.

Senior government officials, religious leaders and members of the diplomatic community are participating in the groundbreaking mass tree planting campaign taking place across the nation.

Ethiopia has planted 25 billion trees during the first Green Legacy Initiative held between 2019-2022 involving participation more than 20 million people from all walks of life.
