Ethiopia breaks its record by planting 566 million trees in a day

Addis Ababa, July 17, 2023 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced that Ethiopia has achieved its goal set to plant 500 million trees in 12 hours nationwide.

In a statement he made from the situation room where the tree planting process was being monitored from, the Premier indicated that Ethiopians have actively participated in the planting of 566 million seedlings in a day.

“We planned, stood together on the planting campaign and achieved our goals,” the Prime Minister said. He congratulated Ethiopians on the historic achievement. 

According to the Prime Minister, 566, 971, 6000 seedlings have been planted on a total of 302,000 ha of land in various parts of the country.

“Although Climate Change is considered a global threat and dialogues have long been held on the matter, measures taken to avert the problem are not as strong as what Ethiopia has so far done in this regard, the Prime Minister noted.

“We set an example for Africa, Africa and the rest of the world at large, ” the Prime Minister said, explaining that the planting sites included in the report are recognized and fulfill international standards.
