Ethiopia reports record 245 new cases, seven deaths in 24 hours

Addis Ababa, June 12, 2020 (FBC) –Ethiopia reported record 245 new cases of the coronavirus in the past one day, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 2,915.

The new cases were identified out of 5,709 laboratory tests conducted in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health.

Of the new confirmed cases, 172 are male and 73 are female with the youngest being 1 year old and the oldest 85 year, it added.

Some 241 of the confirmed cases are Ethiopians and the remaining four are foreign nationals.

Of the total confirmed cases, 190 are from Addis Ababa, 17 from Oromia, 16 from Somali, 15 from Tigray, 4 from SNNP, and 3 from Amhara regional states.

A record seven patients also died of the virus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 47, the Ministry indicated.

Some 17 people have recovered from the virus, raising the total number of recoveries to 451.

There are now a total of 2,415 active cases in Ethiopia, with 38 of them in a severe condition. The total number of tests conducted so far stands at 170, 860.
