Landmark agreement inked to commence E-passport service in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, December 13, 2023 (FBC) – In a landmark development, the Ethiopian Immigration and Citizenship Services (ICS) and Toppan Gravity Ethiopia (TGE), a joint venture formed by Ethiopian Investment Holdings, Toppan Group, Berhanena Selam Printing Enterprise (BSPE), and Educational Materials Production and Distribution Enterprise (EMPDE), officially signed a significant agreement for the supply and services agreement to commence work on the newly designed Ethiopian E-passport.

This partnership marks a significant stride in modernizing Ethiopia’s passport system, offering enhanced security features and improved efficiency.

It is indicated that the agreement signals a new era in passport technology for Ethiopia, promising a seamless transition to the innovative E-passport.

At the signing ceremony, it was pledged to make a seamless transition to a better passporting process, according to the FDRE Immigration Citizenship Service.

It is also mentioned that the passport printing factory will be stationed in Addis Ababa’s Bole Lemi Industrial Park.

The collaboration between ICS and TGE sets the stage for a transformative impact on travel and security, according to ICS.
