Mayor of Addis Ababa arrives in Shanghai city for working visit

Addis Ababa, December 18, 2023 (FBC) – An Ethiopian delegation, headed by Ms. Adanech Abiebie, the Mayor of Addis Ababa city, has arrived in Shanghai, China’s prominent commercial hub, for an official working visit..

The purpose of their visit, according to Addis Ababa City Communication, is to engage in official activities and discussions with counterparts in Shanghai, with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations and exploring potential areas of collaboration.

The delegation comprises not only Ms. Adanech but also officials and experts from the Addis Ababa city administration, including Deputy Mayor Mr. Jantrar Abay.

In addition to the official tour, the delegation from the Addis Ababa city administration engaged in discussions with the leaders of the Shanghai City Planning and Natural Resources Bureau. The focus of these discussions revolved around various aspects of urban structural planning and implementation, infrastructure construction and integration, land utilization and management, and strategies for building a modern city. The delegation sought to learn from Shanghai’s expertise in these areas and explore ways to apply similar approaches in Ethiopian cities.

Moreover, the delegates discussed the possibility of sharing Shanghai’s digitalized services and the process of building a smart city with Ethiopian cities. The aim was to foster collaboration and identify opportunities for working together in the future.
