RRS chief urges stakeholders, partners to respond to needs of refugees, host communities

Addis Ababa, July 4, 2023 (FBC) – The Director General of Refugees and Returnees Service of Ethiopia, Tesfahun Gobezay, has called for coordinated efforts to respond to the needs of refugees and communities hosting them.

He made the call in a meeting with UNHCR Deputy High Commissioner Kelly T. Clements, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Secretary General Doreen Bogdan-Martin and Director of UNHCR Regional Bureau for the Horn, East and Great Lakes Region Mamadou Dian Balde.

While hosting the high-profile delegates at his office, the RRS Director General briefed them about Ethiopia’s entire refugee operation, achievements, opportunities and challenges thereof.

The DG also reminded the delegation of the huge burden Ethiopia is shouldering by hosting an increasing number of refugees and asylum seekers amid global, regional and local predicaments. Hence, he called for coordinated efforts to respond to the needs of refugees and communities hosting them, as per RRS.
