Africa CDC HQ epitome of flourishing China-Africa Cooperation

Addis Ababa, January 11, 2022 (FBC) – The Chinese Foreign Minister, Qin Gang and Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat have inaugurated the Africa Center for Disease Control (CDC) Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

On the occasion, the Chinese Foreign Minister stated that the Africa CDC which has been built with financial support of the Chinese Government is an epitome of the flourishing China-Africa Cooperation.

He further reiterated China’s commitment to strong solidarity and cooperation with Africa in multifaceted areas.

Saying that 52 African countries and the African Union have so far signed the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Cooperation Agreement with China, the Foreign Minister added that the China-Africa cooperation have made historic achievement over the past decade.

China will continue its advocacy towards the realization of proper representation of Africa countries in the United Nations Security Council and other international platforms.

China is committed to support the African endeavors to expand road and railway infrastructure with a view to support the African Continental Free Trade Area initiative.

Qi Gang said China is always committed to help African nations achive their development aspirations based on the Belt and Road Initiative for the realization of agenda 2063. China has built hundreds of infrastructures including roads, railways and hospitals in African countries, and will continue its support in similar areas, the Foreign Affairs Minister added.

The African Union conference hall, the Ethio-Djibouti Railway, the Nairobi expressway and the ongoing construction of the Africa CDC manifest how the partnership with China and the continent is getting momentum, he said.

Foreign Minister Qin Gang further reiterated China’s commitment to continue its support to Ethiopia in the health, agriculture, investment, peace and security, digital transformation, road and railway infrastructure and other multiple areas of cooperation towards realizing better future for the people of the continent.

He further underscored that China is committed to unity and territorial integrity of African nations and other world’s developing countries. “The collective rise of developing countries is becoming irreversible. China is ready to support African countries to help them ensure confidence towards justice, democracy, freedom and true multilateralism.”

Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, for his part lauded China’s support for the realization of the Africa CDC Headquarter describing the facility as manifestation of the growing partnership between China and the continent.

The CDC Headquarter will have a paramount significance  in strengthening public health services, diagnostic capabilities and reinforce readiness to mitigate major health problems in the continent.

The Chairperson further said that the two sides have signed MoU to work in collaboration in peace and security, food sufficiency and health sectors.

Equipped with state of the art facilities, the Africa CDC Head quarter is believed to smarten and strengthen the health care services in the continent.
