Ethio telecom launches 4G internet service in Tigray region

Addis Ababa, November 23, 2023 (FBC) – Ethio telecom has announced the launch of 4G internet services in various cities of the Tigray region.

It is said that Mekele, Shire, Adigrat and Axum cities in the region are the cities where the service has gone live.

Ethio Telecom’s Chief Technology Officer, Tariku Demssie, told Fana Broadcasting Corporate that services that were interrupted due to the conflict in the northern part of the country are being fully restored.

Besides to the maintenance of 1,800 kilometers of fiber lines, some 466 stations have been restored to full service in the areas under Ethio telecom North Region, according to Mr Tariku.

He underscored that the number of broadband or WiFi service users has also increased in addition to 4G service in the aforementioned region.

The work of restoring the services provided by Ethio telecom in other towns of Tigray region, including 4G internet service, will be strengthened, the Officer confirmed.

Ethio telecom has made 4G internet service available in 300 cities across the country so far, Tariku said, adding that more cities will benefit from the 4G internet service this year.

Recall that Ethio telecom recently launched the 5G service in Addis Ababa and Adama. Moreover, in the bid to realize Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy, Ethio telecom disclosed its plans to roll out advanced services soon across the country.
