GBHHEC inauguration solidifies Pan-Africanism – DPM & FM Demeke

Addis Ababa, December 8, 2023 (FBC) – The launching ceremony of the Global Black History, Heritage and Education Centre was held at the African Union Hall in Addis Ababa earlier today.

Speaking at the ceremony Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, stated that the opening of the Centre in Addis Ababa reinforces the unity and real history of the black people of the world.

Demeke Mekonnen further expressed that the Centre will play an important role in narrating the glorified history, heritage and identity of the black people in its authentic form to the current and future generations.

Mr. Demeke also stated that the Centre will serve as a museum and venue for the study and research of black people’s culture, history and heritage.

Mrs. Angela Martins, representative of the African Union Commissioner for Health, Human and Social Development, underscored that the Centre hugely contributes to the revival of Pan-Africanism and make the voice of the black people heard at the global stage.

Mr. Tsegaye Chama, Chairman of the Centre, on his part stated that the Centre came to reality through years of dedication of black professionals.

A detailed presentation on the historical process, the significance and visions of the Centre was also made and opened for deliberation.

Senior government officials, African Union Commission officials, executive members of the Centre, representatives of the diplomatic community based in Addis Ababa, civil society representatives and other invited guests attended the ceremony.
