Purpose Black Ethiopia, UN Women discuss economic empowerment of women in agriculture

Addis Ababa, July 26, 2023 (FBC) – Cecile Mukarubuga, UN Women’s Country Representative to Ethiopia met with Fisseha Eshetu CEO and Board Member of Purpose Black Ethiopia Trading Share Company

During the meeting the two sides discuss possible areas of partnership to contribute to the economic empowerment of women in agriculture and agribusiness.

It is sated that the discussion resulted in identifying common areas of effort that would contribute to transforming women’s and men’s livelihoods for the better and the two agreed on the immediate steps to be taken to establish the partnership.

“I believe a concrete partnership is the next step as we have seen the common ground and motivation to take women and more. We would, especially like to involve women across the value chain; from production to market access”, Cecile Mukarubuga, UN Women’s Country Representative to Ethiopia has stated.

“We strongly believe that women are the core on what we do. The alignment of your priorities with ours is clearly understood and we are looking forward to working with you”, the representative added.

Purpose Black is an initiative launched in May 2020 through a collaborative effort of more than 130 experts.

The Share Company intends to economically resolve some of the principal issues related to the farming community.

It aims to encompassing the construction and launching of a mega agro-processing complex, an e-commerce marketplace, five hypermarkets, ten big supermarkets, a chain of more than 1000 retail and distribution stores all over Ethiopia and multiple agricultural endeavors established by joint ventures with farmers throughout the country.
